How your score is worked out

      1. Air. Each hour, PM2.5, PM10, NO₂ and the 8-hour ozone average are converted to US EPA sub-indices (the same yardstick everywhere, so a score in Delhi means the same as one in London). The worst one sets the hour's air level, scaled so EPA "Unhealthy" (150) equals 50.

      2. Your sensitivity. Asthma or COPD, heart disease, pregnancy, diabetes, allergies, and age under 12 or over 60 raise the score, by up to 70%.

      3. Your exposure. Mostly indoors lowers it by 20%; outdoor work or a two-wheeler commute raises it by 20%.

      4. Heat. When it feels hotter than 32°C, up to 25 points are added, more for elders, children, pregnancy, heart disease and outdoor workers.

The AQI number in the "Air quality now" card follows your country's official scale; you can switch it.

      How Hawa Score works

      1. Find your place. Use your current location or search any city in the world.
      2. Tell us about your health. Age group, conditions such as asthma or heart disease, and how much time you spend outdoors.
      3. Get your personal risk score. Hourly PM2.5, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and heat forecasts are combined with your profile into a score from 0 to 100.
      4. Know when to go out. See the cleanest 2-hour window today, what to do (mask, inhaler, windows, exercise timing), and get alerts when your risk is high.

Why a personal score instead of just AQI?

The same air affects people differently. An AQI of 150 may be fine for a healthy adult working indoors, but risky for a child with asthma walking to school. Hawa Score adjusts for your health and habits, and checks your symptoms against the air over time, so you learn your own triggers.

      Frequently asked questions

      What is Hawa Score?

Hawa Score is a free website that turns air-quality and weather forecasts into a personal health risk score from 0 to 100. It uses your age, health conditions and time outdoors, and tells you the best time to go outside today.

How do I check the air quality near me?

Tap "Use my location" and allow location access when your browser asks, or search for any city, town or village. Hawa Score shows the current AQI and a 24-hour hourly forecast for that place.

      What is AQI?

The Air Quality Index (AQI) turns pollutant concentrations into one number. Higher is worse. Countries use different scales: India uses the CPCB National AQI, the US uses the EPA AQI and Europe uses the European Air Quality Index. Hawa Score shows the scale used in your country, and you can switch it.

What is PM2.5 and why does it matter?

PM2.5 is fine particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometres. It can reach deep into the lungs and the bloodstream, and is linked to asthma attacks, heart disease and stroke. The WHO guideline for a 24-hour average is 15 µg/m³.

Who should use a personal air-quality score?

Anyone, but it helps most for people with asthma, COPD, heart disease, diabetes or allergies, pregnant women, children, older adults, and people who work outdoors or ride two-wheelers. These groups feel the effects of pollution sooner.

      Is Hawa Score free?

Yes. Hawa Score is free to use, with no account and no app download. You can add it to your phone's home screen like an app.

Is my location and health information private?

Yes. Your location, health profile and daily check-ins are stored only in your browser on your device. Hawa Score has no user database.

      Is Hawa Score medical advice?

No. It gives general guidance based on air-quality forecasts. Always follow your doctor's advice, and seek help if you have trouble breathing or chest pain.
